13-May-2010 - RAD-CON HONORED WITH PRESIDENTIAL ā€œEā€ AWARD

RAD-CON HONORED WITH PRESIDENTIAL “E” AWARD

RAD-CON, a leading supplier of industrial furnaces that use 100% hydrogen to anneal metals, has been honored with the coveted President’s “E” Award for sustained excellence in exporting. The President’s “E” Awards are the highest U.S. government honor for growing U.S. exports, strengthening the economy and creating American jobs.

The Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke presented RAD-CON with the award at a ceremony held May 13 at the U.S. Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C. Pictured from left-to-right are: Francisco Sánchez (Under Secretary for International Trade), Mike McDonald (RAD-CON vice president, operations), Chris Messina (RAD-CON vice president, sales and projects), and Gary Locke (Secretary of Commerce).

“I want to congratulate you on your achievement, and for supporting critical export-related jobs for American workers,” Mr. Locke told the recipients. “President Obama’s National Export Initiative was designed with one overriding goal: to get people back to work in jobs that provide security, dignity, and a sense of hope for the future. It is businesses like yours with a proven record of success that are going to help us meet or exceed that goal.”

Only 22 companies nationwide received the coveted “E” banner this year. These are the first “E” and “E” Star Awards given out since President Obama announced the National Export Initiative, which aims to double American exports and support 2 million U.S. jobs by 2015.

The Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration, which seeks to improve the global business environment and help U.S. firms to compete and win both at home and abroad, manages the award program that has recognized more than 2,500 firms since its inception.

“Earning this award is a great achievement for our company and employees”, noted Mr. Messina. “RAD-CON has built a strong reputation for innovation by designing, building, and installing bell-type annealing furnace systems throughout the world. As an example, new projects have been initiated in Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia in just the last four months. These contracts are in addition to the equipment we shipped in 2009 for the 860,000 ton/year annealing facility at Steel Authority of India’s Bokaro Steel Plant. To be recognized as one of the top USA performers in exporting is truly an honor.”

The E Award dates back to World War II, when "E Pennants" were presented to war plants in recognition of production excellence. The famous flag with the big "E" emblazoned on it became a badge of patriotism in action. The Presidential “E” Award was created by President John F. Kennedy in 1961, to recognize persons, firms or organizations that contribute significantly to increasing U. S. exports.
